ULTRA Music Festival 2013

TRANSMISION EN VIVO:

Hoy arranca en Miami el Ultra Music Festival, una de las mayores citas de música electrónica del mundo, que en esta ocasión, para celebrar sus quince años, se ha propuesto batir récords de asistencia con unas 400.000 personas, al ampliarse a dos fines de semana consecutivos.

Así, apesar de los percances ocurridos ayer (click aquí para más info) hoy comienzan las actuaciones del "primer festival" en el Bayfront Park de Miami y el siguiente fin de semana tendrá lugar un "segundo festival" en el mismo lugar pero con una cartelera diferente.

Si todo sale como está previsto, el Ultra pasará a ser seguramente el mayor festival de música que se organiza en el centro de una gran ciudad estadounidense, superando al Lollapalloza de Chicago.

Este viernes está prevista la actuación en el escenario principal de Swedish House Mafia, Afrojack, Fedde Le Grand, Nicky Romero, Cazzette, Helena.

En otros escenarios estarán también Fatboy Slim, Carl Cox, John Digweed, Jamie Jones, Cassy, Kryoman, Nilolas Jaar Live, Crystal Castles, Boys Noize Live, Modestep, Arrabmuzik y Goldfish Live.

En los últimos días, los vecinos de la zona donde se celebra este controvertido festival -en pleno corazón de Miami- han sido testigos de las últimas pruebas de sonido del espectacular montaje que conllevan los escenarios del Ultra, sobre todo en cuanto a lo que despliegue de bajos se refiere.

Aunque no exenta de críticas, la decisión de ampliar el rango de actuaciones a medida que pasan las ediciones ha permitido que esta cita anual atraiga a gente más variopinta ya que incluso actúan bandas relativamente tradicionales y DJs más de "mainstream".

Entre los platos fuertes de este año no faltan nombres como los de Tiësto, Avicci, David Guetta y Deadmau5, todos ellos ya unos clásicos de esta cita.

El Ultra nació en 1999 en Miami Beach con unos 10.000 asistentes y pérdidas netas, por iniciativa de Russell Faibisch, que tenía entonces 21 años, y su exsocio Alejandro Alex Omes, de 28.

Hoy en día el Ultra se ha convertido en todo un negocio, que el año pasado dejó en Miami 79 millones de dólares y que cuenta con festivales hermanos en Brasil, España (Ibiza), Corea del Sur, Argentina y Chile. Este año se calcula que el coste de producción rondará los 30 millones de dólares.

Según explicaba esta semana el propio Faibisch a la publicación local New Times, la idea de organizar este festival se le ocurrió durante un concierto de Depeche Mode en Miami como parte de su gira "Devotion Tour" (1993).

"Ahí -dijo- fue cuando me di cuenta de que quería que mi vida girara en torno a esto".

El nombre del festival viene del álbum "Ultra" que ese grupo publicó unos años más tarde.

El Ultra comenzó como una actividad paralela -un concierto junto a la playa- de la Winter Music Conference, que se realiza cada año en Miami, aunque recientemente ambas organizaciones rompieron lazos.

"Es mi corazón y mi alma. Probablemente una de las cosas más gratificantes es echar la vista atrás y ver cómo todo el mundo me decía: '¡Déjalo, esto no tiene sentido!'", explica Faibisch.

Sin embargo el festival genera una gran controversia en la ciudad, ya que además de provocar un quebradero de cabeza para quienes tienen que transitar durante esos días por la zona, atrae, entre otros, a gente que asocia esta cita con el consumo de éxtasis y que en ocasiones protagoniza escenas lamentables y peligrosas.

El año pasado Deadmau5 (Joel Zimmerman) arremetió contra Madonna, acusándola que querer hacerse la "cool" y perjudicar a la imagen de festival por preguntar sobre un escenario, en un cameo sorpresa, quién había visto a "Molly", un juego de palabras entre el nombre de su último disco (MDNA) y una popular manera de referirse al MDMA.

Ello explica que la vigilancia y el despliegue policial sea enorme. El año pasado la Policía aseguró haber detenido a 71 personas durante el festival, 45 de ellas por cuestiones relacionadas con drogas.

"Todos sabemos que el consumo de drogas en el Ultra es alto. Y puede ser que para un joven esté bien 'colocarse', o como se diga, el viernes, el sábado y el domingo, pero ahora vamos a tener a gente tratando de 'ponerse' viernes, sábado, domingo, lunes, martes, miércoles, jueves, ...", dijo el propio comisionado de la ciudad Marc Sarnoff el pasado enero.

Sarnoff hizo esas declaraciones justo antes de autorizar, no obstante, que el festival se celebrara durante dos fines de semana consecutivos, y es que 79 millones de dólares de ingresos para la ciudad son muchos millones.

Accidente en el Ultra Music Festival

Se cae equipo de iluminación durante preparaciones para Ultra Music Festival, 3 heridos

Actualización:
Cuatro personas resultaron heridas, dos de gravedad, después de que una pantalla LED que colgaba de un escenario del Ultra Music Festival cayó hoy jueves.

Los bomberos lograron liberar a las personas atrapadas y fueron llevadas a Jackson Memorial Hospital, donde se encuentran en estado crítico, dijo Carroll.

La pantalla LED, de unos 30 metros de ancho, se estrelló a las 7:50 pm en el escenario en el extremo sur del parque. Es uno de los 2 stages principales del festival, que está programado para comenzar el viernes.

Las autoridades inicialmente informaron que un escenario se derrumbó. Estaban a punto de terminar de montar el stage donde ocurrió el incidente, pero todas las operaciones y actividades fueron suspendidas. Las autoridades y los promotores están analizando el estado del escenario.

El festival de 2013 está previsto que comience el viernes, con su primer fin de semana hasta el domingo, que será seguido por un segundo fin de semana Viernes, 22 de marzo hasta el domingo 24 de marzo

Los equipos de rescate de la ciudad de Miami acudieron la noche del jueves al Bayfront Park después de que se reportó el colapso de un escenario.

Parte de los equipos de iluminación que se estaban instalando como preparativo para el Ultra Music Festival se cayeron la noche del jueves en el Bayfront Park de Miami hiriendo a tres personas.

Los equipos de rescate de la ciudad de Miami llegaron a la escena del accidente que occuió a las 8 p.m., unas horas antes de la apertura del festival, prevista para el viernes.

Las víctimas han sido transportadas al Centro de Jackson Memorial Hospital de Trauma Ryder, según los trabajadores de rescate.

No está claro si los heridos eran trabajadores. Hasta dos personas están en estado crítico, según los informes de la escena.
